Set the policy before a difficult moment
Write down what belongs in the conversation, what crosses a boundary, and who can help review. Decide how to handle threats, repeated targeting, personal information, and comments that need context. Choose tools that fit your boundaries
Use Instagram’s current native controls and consult its official help material for the latest settings. You may restrict commenting, filter terms, hide a comment, block or report an account, or ask a trusted moderator for help. Feature availability can change; verify it in the product. For example, ordinary disagreement about a recommendation can stay visible. An appearance-based insult or persistent unwanted sexual remark may warrant hiding under the creator’s policy. A quoted insult in a support message may need REVIEW rather than an automatic hide. These are synthetic situations, not tested product outputs. Preserve context and escalate serious threats
For a credible threat or exposure of personal information, prioritize immediate safety. Preserve relevant evidence securely, use platform reporting, and contact trusted support or local authorities when appropriate. Do not encourage public reposting of identifying material.
