Use this checklist to prepare a comment-moderation workflow that fits your account. It cannot prevent abuse or replace platform reporting and personal safety support.

Before moderation

• Write down what your community welcomes and what crosses a boundary.
• Decide which cases require your review or a trusted moderator.
• Check Instagram’s current native comment and safety controls.
• Choose a private, access-limited way to record serious incidents.

When reviewing a comment

• Read relevant surrounding context before deciding.
• Distinguish disagreement, quotation, and targeted abuse using your policy.
• If meaning is uncertain, ask for a second human review rather than guessing.
• Record the moderation decision separately from whether the platform action succeeded.

When a comment includes a credible threat or personal information

• Prioritize immediate safety and avoid publicly amplifying identifying details.
• Preserve only the evidence needed, in a secure place with restricted access.
• Use platform reporting and contact trusted support or appropriate local services.

Review the process

• Correct mistaken decisions and update moderator guidance.
• Remove incident records when no longer needed under your retention policy.
• Ask whether current tools and review steps fit your needs.
